Making Visual Choices

Use Color Contrast
to Focus Attention

Question: Which butterfly grabs your attention? Why?

Answer: The one that is different; because it is different.

If you want your quilt to be noticed, it needs a focus, a point of interest. Compare the first quilt design to this one.

Having a butterfly with a color that contrasts with the others makes a big difference.

When all the butterflies are green, it's the same old same old. It's pleasant but boring. The pink butterfly makes the quilt more interesting.

Because the pink butterfly stands out it even adds a little bit of depth to the quilt.

For a quilt to be interesting it needs a point of interest. Keep that in mind when you are choosing fabrics.
