Quilting

Checkerboard Placemat

This 12"x 18" placemat is made using 3" squares. I want to design some quilting for it.

What if I lose the checkerboard squares in the center and just keep the ones around the outside?

What if I replace the missing squares with a 4-petal design made by stitching red semi-circles?

What if, in the red squares, I repeat the design in white?

What if I add some green arcs and place 2 petals at the points where the arcs meet?

This is looking good but it needs a little something more.

What if I add petals at the center of the arcs?

I think my grandmother would have liked this.
