Playing with Borders

Oh Susannah Quilt  (See also: 22 December 2009)

This quilt motif was designed using an augmented Oh Susannah block.

It needs a border.

What if I join the ends of the Brown "strings" and connect some of the light yellow as well?

This completes the motif but I don't have a border yet.

What if I forget about a border and think in terms of a background instead?

I can place the motif on a white background and finish it with brown binding.

Normally a border acts as a frame that limits the image.  In this case the image is self limiting and floats on the background

  1. Another very intersting border effect.

It's always fun to try doing things a little different.

One thing different about this is that the binding becomes a little more important than is usual; it almost takes over the roll of the border (but not quite).
